The rot continues…

Milton Keynes had a double header weekend, travelling to Warwick and Bristol. After two previous defeats in recent weeks, the lads wanted to get back into winning ways - but it was not to be. It turned out to be a disappointing weekend for Milton Keynes.

Saturday saw a visit to Warwick, against a lowly positioned Riga team, who had only won one match this season so far. But this meant nothing as the game began and it was clear that their league position did not reflect their ability. Warwick came out the stronger, as Milton Keynes were obviously thinking it would be an easy win. The first two sets went the way of the home side, 25-21 and 25-23. Milton Keynes were not in the game at all at this stage, and looking down and out.

The visitors rallied and made a push, not wanting to leave without a fight. Despite some tough blocking opposition, MK came through 20-25 winners to set up a potential fight back - but that never happened. Warwick completed the 3-1 win with a 25-20 set win, and it has to be said that Warwick thoroughly deserved the victory against the lack lustre Milton Keynes team.

Sunday was always going to be a tough match against a team in second position in the league, having only lost 2 matches. Bristol have a very strong squad, but MK knew that they could compete, having beaten the league leaders, Guildford, earlier in the year. The MK lads played much better than they did on Saturday (which wasn't difficult), but Bristol were just too strong. The match was over in just 52 minutes, giving a 3-0 win to the home side. Bristol are firm favourites to go straight back up to division 1.

Despite the hammering by Bristol, the MK team can have more confidence going into the new year, as they showed signs of their good form from earlier in the season. The new year can give a new hope to the team.

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to everyone.

Next match: Saturday 15th January 2005 vs Birmingham (Away)

Team: Matt Almond, Simon Barton, Colin Brown, Tim Daun, Dave Goddard, Andreas Whitley, Ant Moffat, Scott Robson, Kevin Smith
