05/06 Season
Danes vs Milton Keynes
Date: Saturday 17th September 2005
Score: 3-0 Loss (25-20 26-24 25-19)

Not the best start!
The first match of the season started badly and got worse! Due to an accident on the M1, the Milton Keynes team were not assembled in the sports hall until the warm-up was virtually over. (The referees and home team had kindly agreed to a later start time due to the circumstances.) This was not the best preparation for the game. This was obvious as the MK lads were not really firing on any cylinders.
Danes were a very well organised side and were able to capitalise on Milton Keynes' sloppy start, taking the first set 25-20.

The second set saw Milton Keynes pushing harder to try desperately to get back into the match. Milton Keynes took an early 4 point lead at 7-11 up with some good middle attacks from Ant Moffat and Andreas Whitley, as the backcourt began to give the service to setter Scott Robson. Milton Keynes hung onto the thin lead right through to 17-20 up, as Danes fought hard to keep the visitors at bay. However, a series of serves from Danes' Kennedy saw the teams back on level pegging at 22 all. Two winning serves from MK gave them a set point, which was squandered. A couple more rallies saw the visitors edging out MK 26-24, in what proved to be a vital set. The feeling after the game was that had MK taken the second set, the rest of the match may have told a completely different story.

Danes held strong in the 3rd set, taking an early 8-3 lead which MK never recovered from. Danes then closed out the set 25-19 and the match 3-0. It was a disappointing start for MK, but they can only get better...

Next match: Saturday 24th September 2005 @ 15:30 vs Guildford (Woughton Centre, MK)

Team: Simon Barton, Colin Brown, Tim Daun, Dave Goddard, Ant Moffat, Kevin Reynolds, Scott Robson, Kevin Smith, Andreas Whitley & Coach Karen Smith
