05/06 Season
Milton Keynes vs Ellesmere Port Eels
Date: Sunday 16th October 2005
Score: 3-0 Win (25-21 25-19 25-17)

2 wins in 2 days...
It turned out to be a great weekend for the MK team, taking their second win in two days and suddenly finding themselves in 3rd place! The match was generally played in good humour, apart from an initial spat at the start of the game, which was soon forgotten about. The refereeing was in huge contrast to Saturday's match, with some harsh, but consistent calls - let it not be said that we always criticise the referee...today he had a good performance.

Onto the match...it took just over an hour for MK to see off the visitors' challenge, in a very strong performance from MK. The few training sessions and the influence of Coach Karen Smith are beginning to pay off, as the squad is believing in themselves again. Smith was able to chop and change the team at will, without affecting the momentum of the players on court, which is a good omen for future matches.

Great defence, as the blocking is improving, was key to the day for MK. This, in conjunction with all the hitters being full of confidence, allowed setter Scott Robson to put the ball wherever he wished. There was a noticeable contribution from debutant Kevin Reynolds, who performed extremely well in his first run out, provided further options to Coach Smith in future matches.

After losing the first two matches of the season, it's good to get back to winning ways and after a winning weekend, getting back to played 4, won 2 and lost 2 - AND finding ourselves in 3rd place at this early stage of the season.

Since the Canadian connection of Tim Daun has left the club for sunnier views in Australia, MK have started to win their matches! All I can say is that perhaps we don't miss Tim quite as much as we thought we did...?!?

Next match: Saturday 22nd October @ 15:00 vs Birmingham International (away at Birmingham Sports Centre)

Team: Matt Almond, Simon Barton, Colin Brown, Dave Goddard, Ant Moffat, Kevin Reynolds, Scott Robson, Kevin Smith, Andreas Whitley & Coach Karen Smith
