05/06 Season
Milton Keynes vs Guildford International
Date: Saturday 24th September 2005
Score: 2-3 Loss (25-21 25-19 19-25 17-25 8-15)

Snatched defeat from the jaws of victory!
In Tim Daun's last match for MK before he leaves to go to Australia, the lads were determined to let him depart on a positive note - and it all started so well. Although MK were not playing particularly well, they managed to force an early 2 sets to 0 lead through sheer determination. The defence had obviously improved since their defeat to Danes, which helped to take the initiative.

Set 3 was a very close affair, seeing the scores tied right up to 17. However, Guildford were the stronger finishers taking their next 8 points versus MK's 2. Guildford clearly had the momentum in the match now, as MK wilted. Coach Smith had very little options to make changes with only having the bear 6 plus the libero, so her day was very frustrating. The Guildford players really began to take charge, finding the gaps in the block and backcourt, as they proceeded to dominate the net.

With MK's lack of options, Guildford romped home 17-25 and 8-15 in the last 2 sets. Clearly the Guildford team were excited by their come back, which was deserved, given the lack of fight from MK. Complacency with a 2-0 lead along with the lack of training and player options all contributed to the lack lustre finish to the match for MK.

The addage that "things can only get better" is echoing in the ears of the MK team.

Losing Tim Daun from the team will be a big blow for MK, as he moves to warmer climates. He brought so much to the team...fruit, poor eyesight, inability to close his arms in a block, drugs (he was a medical sales rep before anyone calls the police!)...plus he reduced the average age of the team by a little bit...and of course there was Corey. You'll be missed buddy, but good luck to you in Australia.
