Back on an even keel... The match started well for MK, with a strong hitting performance, particularly through the middle by Ant Moffatt and Andreas Whitley and outside by Colin Brown. Setter Scott Robson was able to spread the play well due to a solid passing performance by Kev Smith and Matt Almond. MK took the opening set 25-20 to take an early lead in the match. The second set was a different story, as Wessex piled on the pressure with very little resistance from the home side. Wessex romped home 13-25 set winners to level the match 1-1. After a ticking off from Coach Karen Smith and time to reset themselves, MK came out in the 3rd set a different team. Wessex continued to hit harder and harder in an attempt to break down MK's defence, but the block and back court were up to the challenge. Simon Barton played a pivotal role opposite the setter, with consistent hitting and passing. There was also cameo performances by Dave Goddard and Kevin Reynolds, showing that this was truly a squad performance. The 3rd set went the way of the home side, MK, to a 25-22 scoreline. MK have had too many 5 set matches this season already, and were determined to try and take the fourth set and the match. The set didn't start particularly well, as Wessex took and early lead, which they sustained right throughout the set until the final few points. The match ended in controversy, as MK produced a fantastic fight back, Wessex lost their temper with a couple of refereeing decisions - two yellow cards were dished out to Wessex, resulting in MK winning the match, as the yellow cards count as points to MK. It was an unfortunate end to the match, but MK will take any win they can. The fourth set ended up 25-23, with a 3-1 win to MK, bringing their season record so far to won 3 and lost 3.
